The Iglesia Ni Cristo Church of Christ has distributed 700 care packs of assorted foods to the needy community in Lusaka’s Zanimuone West area.
The Church has also conducted a free medical exercise in the area as part of its humanitarian programme aimed at improving community health as well as social and economic wellbeing.
Speaking during the outreach, Iglesia Ni Cristo Assistant District Minister, Jedervil Hidrosolo, said the initiative was guided by biblical teachings that encourage believers to help people in need.
Pastor Hidrosolo said the programme was open to everyone, regardless of religious or national background, as the church sought to promote kindness and service to humanity.
“The importance of this programme is to reach out to people in need,” he said.
He expressed hope that the humanitarian initiative would continue in the future to support vulnerable communities.
Meanwhile, Zambia Police Victim Support Unit Officer at Zanimuone West Police Post, Flaria Musanda, commended the Church for its humanitarian outreach, saying it was making a positive contribution to the community.
Ms Musanda said the initiative demonstrated love and generosity towards others and encouraged beneficiaries to embrace the spirit of giving.
She further urged participants to maintain peace, discipline and mutual respect during the programme to ensure everyone benefited from the activities.
Alice Kaila, a beneficiary, said the programme was important in supporting vulnerable people and promoting compassion, adding that the assistance provided both spiritual and physical support.
Ms Kaila called on the church to sustain its humanitarian assistance to communities in need.
“We appreciate the church for caring for humanity,” she said.
