39-Year-Old Man Arrested For Facebook Post Mocking Mwenzo UPND losing candidate Siame In High Court
A 39-year-old man from Nakonde District has been arrested for allegedly harassing losing United Party for National Development (UPND) Mwenzo Constituency parliamentary candidate Nathan Musingwa Siame through a Facebook post mocking him while he was attending court proceedings.
The suspect, identified as Israel Sichone of Tazara Compound in Waitwika, Nakonde District, allegedly posted a photograph of Mr Siame on his Facebook account, under the name Israel Musainda Sichone.
This was accompanied by a statement making fun of him as he attended the Chinsali High Court in connection with his petition challenging the outcome of the Mwenzo parliamentary election.
In the post, Mr Sichone allegedly wrote, “UPND’s losing parliamentary candidate for Mwenzo constituency, Musingwa Siame sweating badly in court as counsel Mumba keeps on firing questions 😂🤣🤸”
Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Lubinda Mayamba confirmed the arrest to Chete FM News on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
According to information recorded at Chinsali Police Station, the alleged incident occurred between October 6 and October 9, 2026, at the Chinsali High Court in Chinsali District, where Mr Siame was attending court proceedings.
Police received a telephone call from a concerned member of the public on October 9, 2026, at 09:00 hours, alerting them to the alleged harassment.
Following the report, police instituted investigations and apprehended Mr Sichone, recovering the cellphone allegedly used to publish the Facebook post.
The cellphone has been kept at Chinsali Police Station as an exhibit and is expected to be taken to Lusaka for analysis by the Forensic Cyber Crime Unit.
A docket has since been opened, and the suspect has been placed in police custody for the alleged offence of prohibition of harassment.
Investigations into the matter are continuing.
