SIWILA HAILS EZRA TEMBO FOR PRACTICAL NATIONAL RECONCILIATION EFFORTS

National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) Deputy National Youth Chairperson Benja Siwila has commended party president Ezra Tembo for promoting national reconciliation, unity and constructive engagement across the political divide.

Mr Siwila said Mr Tembo’s willingness to engage fellow opposition leaders and interact with the Head of State in Parliament demonstrated the importance of placing national interests above political differences.

He said opposition leaders had a responsibility to provide effective checks and balances without turning political disagreements into personal conflicts.

“Providing timely, effective and consistent checks and balances is a fundamental responsibility of the opposition,” Mr Siwila said

He, however, cautioned that political competition should focus on policies, ideas and solutions rather than personalities.

“Politics and leadership must be about competing ideas, policies and solutions, rather than personalities,” he said.

Mr Siwila said constructive engagement with government on matters affecting citizens did not weaken the opposition but demonstrated political maturity and commitment to democratic principles.

“Dialogue and cooperation do not weaken the opposition,” he said, adding that leaders should be willing to work together on issues affecting the welfare of citizens.

He said Mr Tembo had demonstrated that reconciliation could be achieved through practical engagements rather than public calls for unity alone.

“This is the mark of genuine leadership; having the courage to reach across political boundaries, build bridges and create opportunities for national healing,” Mr Siwila said.

He urged political leaders, particularly young politicians, to reject unnecessary hostility and embrace dialogue when resolving differences.

“Zambia belongs to all of us, regardless of our political affiliations,” he said.

Mr Siwila encouraged opposition leaders to maintain their accountability role while promoting mutual respect, peace and national unity, saying the country’s progress required collective commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous Zambia.
