Tauro Mining has handed over a water system to Mushitala Secondary School in Solwezi District of North-Western Province drilled at a cost of K242,440 to provide clean and safe water to 1,680 learners at the school.

Tauro Mining Marketing and Business Development Manager, Marriam Diaby, says the water system comes with a 100 metres borehole, 10,000 litres elevated tank and an industrial submissive pump.

Ms Diaby has assured that the company remains committed towards ensuring access to safe, clean and reliable water that supports a healthier learning environment and allows learners to have more learning time.

She states that the project is not only meant to provide water, but also promote good health and dignity among learners and teachers as well as the surrounding community.

“This project is more than water, it is health, dignity and opportunity to the community. We do understand that access to reliable water supports a healthier learning environment and allows more time to focus on education,” she notes.

Ms Diaby was speaking in Solwezi yesterday during the handover of the borehole to Mushitala Secondary School management and Parent Teachers Committee.

She said the company will continue investing in projects that improve the well-being of learners and the surrounding community.

Speaking at the same event, District Education Standards Officer, Felix Luputa, thanked the company for helping in the provision of safe and clean water to the school which he said will create a conducive learning environment.

Mr Luputa pointed out that provision of quality education is not a responsibility of the government alone, but that all stakeholders have an important role to play.

“We commend you for ploughing back into the community by donating this borehole to the community, this is a great investment that will contribute to the provision of quality education that the government is striving for,” Mr Luputa said.
