Liam Mukuka from Mpika shares his personal account of repeated tomato theft before a confrontation that he says finally brought the losses to an end.

For months, I watched my tomato farm being destroyed by people who seemed determined to make sure I never benefited from my own hard work.

My name is Liam Mukuka, a farmer from Mpika town, Zambia.

I had invested heavily in my tomato farm. I bought seedlings, prepared the land, paid workers and spent long hours taking care of the crops. The tomatoes were doing well, and I was already thinking about the money I would make when I harvested.

Then the thefts started.

At first, I thought it was just one or two people picking a few tomatoes.

But it became worse.

Every morning, I would walk into the farm and find sections of the crop damaged. Tomatoes were disappearing in large quantities. Sometimes the thieves would come at night. Other times, they seemed to know exactly when nobody was watching.

I tried guarding the farm more closely. I talked to people around the area. I even tried to figure out who was behind it.

Nothing worked.

The situation became so bad that I started feeling like a stranger on my own farm.

I had worked for months, yet other people were harvesting what I had planted.

That moment changed everything.

The thefts stopped.

People in the area also became much more careful about entering my farm without permission. For me, the biggest relief was knowing that I could finally concentrate on farming without constantly wondering who would come at night and steal what I had worked so hard to grow.

I know my experience is personal, and I cannot say another farmer would experience the same thing.

But I remain grateful to Dr. Tambiku for listening to me when I had reached the end of my patience and for the spiritual guidance and assistance he offered me.

What started as a tomato theft problem that seemed impossible to stop ended in a confrontation I will never forget.
