DEVELOPMENT EXPERT QUESTIONS GOVT’S FINANCIAL CAPACITY TO ACQUIRE ELECTRIC VEHICLES FOR MINISTRIES

By Raphael Mulenga

Development expert Victor Chilufya has questioned government’s financial capacity to acquire electric vehicles for all ministries despite backing the initiative.

Mr. Chilufya says while the move is timely considering rising fuel prices and the global shift towards electric mobility, authorities must consider the funding implications.

He says adopting electric vehicles could help ease the pressure of fuel costs on the national economy and improve efficiency in the management of public resources.

In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Chilufya has however, called for a balanced approach that safeguards Zambia’s economic interests.

President Hakainde Hichilema in his speech during the opening of the 1st session of the 14th national assembly yesterday announced plans to acquire electric vehicles for all ministries as part of measures to enhance efficiency in resource management.
