Kasempa District Commissioner, Benson Malipenga, says the first community solar-powered water pump project in Mpungu Ward will ease the burden of water shortage and improve access to reliable water for households.

Mr Malipenga adds that the facility marks an important development milestone for the community in Mpundu and demonstrates the value of collective action in improving rural livelihoods.

Mr Malipenga said this during the commissioning of the Mashelo Community Solar-Powered Water Pump in Mpungu Ward in Kasempa.

“Today is an important day for Mashelo and Mpungu Wards as we celebrate the commissioning of the first community solar-powered water pump in the ward,” he added.

Mr Malipenga stated that improved water access will reduce the time residents spent looking for the commodity, ease queues and support household activities.

He added that reliable water access will also create opportunities for agriculture and small-scale business activities, contributing to improved livelihoods.

Mr Malipenga commended the community for contributing labour, materials and finances towards the project, saying local participation is essential for sustainable development.

“This achievement demonstrates what can be accomplished when communities take ownership of development,” he said.

Mr Malipenga also recognised the partnership with the Peace Corps and the support provided by donors in making the project possible.

He said the project aligns with the Government’s commitment to improving water and sanitation services, promoting rural development and supporting climate-friendly solutions.

Mr Malipenga assured residents that the district administration will continue working with communities and cooperating partners to advance development.

“This project should be the beginning of more development in Mpungu Ward. Let us continue working together as Government, traditional leadership, communities and cooperating partners to improve the lives of our people,” he urged.

Mr Malipenga congratulated the people of Mashelo on the achievement and encouraged them to protect the facility for the benefit of present and future generations.
