In 2027, Children International Zambia will extend its program operations to the Makululu and Katondo compounds in Kabwe. THE CAREER OPPORTUNITY (MORE ABOUT THE ROLE) Children International Zambia (CIZ) is expanding into a new service area in Kabwe, Zambia, where it will establish and roll out Children International’s programs and interventions. The Service Area Coordinator will be instrumental in delivering this expansion by providing leadership, coordination, and operational oversight to ensure that approved project plans, timelines, budgets, and targets are implemented effectively. In close collaboration with the Operations Manager and other CI leaders, you will support the establishment and growth of CI’s presence in the new service area by cultivating strong relationships with local authorities, community leaders, partner organizations, families, children and youth, and other key stakeholders. You will oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and supervision of Field Officers responsible for identifying, verifying, and registering children and families who meet CI’s program eligibility requirements, while maintaining quality, accuracy, and compliance with established standards and procedures. As the operational lead for the service area, you will play a central role in the successful rollout, delivery, and day-to-day oversight of all Child Path activities. You will ensure smooth operations and the timely achievement of program operations milestones in line with CI Zambia’s goals and organizational standards. You will also track progress, promote continuous improvement, capture and share key lessons, and establish a solid foundation for sustainable program expansion and long-term impact in the area. If this opportunity inspires you, you may be the person we are seeking RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE Planning, Operational Oversight and Community Engagement • Champion and raise awareness of CI programs while strengthening the organization’s brand presence in the community. • Lead start-up and service area establishment activities, including community mapping, stakeholder orientation, field deployment planning, and operational readiness activities required for a successful project launch. • Lead the delivery of program activities across the Service Area. • Contribute to agency work planning and budgeting processes related to the Service Area and ensure effective reporting and accountability for results. • Ensure the timely, high-quality delivery of assigned targets within approved budgets and drive the achievement of desired outcomes in line with the agency’s standard operating processes and guidelines, the Child Path Model, and child safeguarding guidelines and practices. • Monitor implementation progress and identify operational issues that may affect Service Area targets, recommending practical corrective actions and contingency measures to support the timely delivery of planned activities. • Coordinate and oversee timely participant identification, validation, and registration processes, ensuring that all enrolled children and families meet approved eligibility requirements, including established PPI, PAM, and other program criteria. • Ensure the timely collection of high-quality sponsor data and adherence to established protocols within the assigned Service Area. • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with local government authorities, schools, community organizations, faith-based institutions, and other key stakeholders to support successful program implementation and community acceptance. • Assess changing community conditions, emerging needs, and external risks, recommending adjustments to implementation approaches to maintain high-quality service delivery and participant engagement. • Implement and adapt stakeholder engagement approaches to strengthen community support, address concerns, and facilitate the effective resolution of community and stakeholder issues. • Support and empower field teams to build and nurture deeper, trust-based relationships with sponsored communities. • Collaborate with the Volunteer Support and Engagement Lead and other leaders to develop and implement strategies to identify, nurture, and retain high-quality volunteers. • Participate regularly in key stakeholder activities conducted in the community to build alliances, promote engagement, and solicit feedback from diverse internal stakeholders, including staff and volunteers, as well as external partners such as government institutions and other NGOs. Administrative and Compliance Management • Coordinate with relevant central office departments to ensure that operating permits for the Service Area Center are renewed and kept current, as applicable, by initiating renewal requests well before their expiration dates. • Ensure that costs are regularly tracked and controlled in line with the approved budget. Review and approve all payment requests originating from the Service Area and serve as the custodian of petty cash. • Coordinate and collaborate with relevant departments to support the implementation of and compliance with the organization’s financial and operational policies and internal controls, including procurement, Talent Growth, child safeguarding, financial management, travel, and expense requirements applicable to Service Area operations. • Oversee the upkeep and maintenance of the field office and other assets, ensuring that they remain in optimal condition. • Ensure that health, safety, and security protocols are enforced and maintained for assets, staff, volunteers, and participants within the Service Area. • Collaborate with the Operations Manager and other agency leaders to identify, assess, and mitigate organizational risks. • Ensure the timely and accurate documentation and reporting of field activities to the Operations Manager and other leaders, including critical assessments, reflections, recommendations, and strategies for improvement. • Promote and monitor the consistency, reliability, timeliness, and quality of all collected information to ensure data integrity. Regularly document and update progress and submit data and other required reports on time. Leadership & Development (LPI Aligned) • Recruit, onboard, supervise, and develop Service Area team members (e.g., Field Officers), ensuring role clarity, capability development, and alignment with CI values, leadership expectations, and operational standards. • Lead and manage the performance of direct reports by setting clear expectations, providing regular coaching and constructive feedback, reinforcing accountability, and supporting development planning to strengthen individual and team effectiveness. • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment that promotes continuous improvement, adaptability, and the successful delivery of Child Path project objectives. • Lead change within the team by supporting staff to adapt effectively to evolving priorities and complex work environments. • Cultivate a learning culture by promoting continuous learning and capacity development throughout implementation cycles and collaborating with teams and stakeholders to share best practices and lessons learned. • Consistently model and reinforce behaviors aligned with CI values. • Enable seamless information flow, break down silos, and promote effective collaboration among stakeholders across the agency and within the community. EDUCATION, EXPERIENECE, KEY SKILLS • University degree in Social Work or a related discipline, with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience leading a team. • Strong organizational and project management skills, with experience in data tracking, review, and records management. • Demonstrated leadership and people management capabilities, including recruitment, coaching, and performance management, with the ability to influence and empower teams while fostering a high-performance culture aligned with CI values and Leadership Portraits. • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage tactfully and build, nurture, and leverage relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders at all levels. • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. • Strong attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, solve problems, and recommend improvements. • Strong time management and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines effectively. • A learning mindset characterized by active listening, humility, and the openness and courage to embrace change. • Self-motivated and proactive, with a high degree of compassion, empathy, integrity, and commitment to addressing complex social issues, particularly those affecting children and youth. • Fluency in English and at least one relevant local language, with strong verbal, written, and presentation skills. TRAVEL REQUIREMENT This is a field-based role, and the incumbent must be comfortable with and willing to travel frequently within Kabwe to various Service Delivery Points (SDPs), as well as to other field locations across Zambia when required.
