CENTRAL Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe has called for investment in rain and underground water harvesting to mitigate the impact of climate change on the livestock sector.

Dr Mwanakampwe says water harvesting should be prioritised to safeguard the future of the livestock sector and contribute to the Grow Zambia Agenda of beef exports.

Provincial Permanent Secretary was speaking when a delegation from the German International Cooperation paid a courtesy call on him in Kabwe.

“We need to harvest rain water to ensure our livestock is safe in the time of drought. We can also use the same water for gardening,” he said.

Dr Mwanakampwe noted that rain water has continued going to waste because of lack of investment in appropriate water harvesting infrastructure.

He therefore stressed the need for cooperating partners to support the government’s efforts in mitigating the effects of climate change.
