PRESIDENTIAL TERM LIMITS CONTINUITY IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT – ANDELEKI
Kazungula North Member of Parliament, Clement Andeleki, has called for constitutional reforms to remove presidential term limits, saying the current limits can affect continuity in national development.
Dr Andeleki says two presidential terms are not enough for a president to fully implement and consolidate major national development programmes.
Speaking to the media on Sunday at Samu Lya Moomba Traditional Ceremony in Monze, Dr Andeleki said constitutional amendments should be undertaken without delay.
He says programmes in infrastructure, agriculture, energy, education and health require adequate time to plan, finance and implement before their full benefits can be realised.
Dr Andeleki says changes in leadership can also lead to new priorities, which may result in some projects being stalled and resources already invested being wasted.
He says Zambia needs stability and continuity in leadership to achieve the Grow Zambia agenda, and has urged citizens to consider the proposed constitutional reforms with the country’s long-term interests in mind.
