Mpika District Electoral Officer Samuel Musenge has urged aspiring candidates, political parties, election agents, the media, monitors and observers to adhere to electoral guidelines and the Code of Conduct ahead of the Nachikufu ward by-election in Mpika South Constituency.

Mr Musenge disclosed that the commission is scheduled to conduct nominations for the ward by election on Thursday, October 8, 2026, while polling will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

He was speaking during a stakeholders briefing meeting held at Mpika Boys.

He emphasised the need for all the candidates interested to participate in the nominations on Thursday to follow laid down procedures.

“This briefing has been organised to sensitise stakeholders on the procedures and requirements for filing nominations and the expectations governing the conduct of the electoral process,” he said.

The DEO said that the aspiring candidates should ensure that they meet all the qualifications and requirements for nomination and have all the necessary documentation in place before presenting themselves for nomination.

Mr Musenge also reminded all stakeholders to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct, while further urging election agents, monitors and observers to uphold professionalism and integrity in the execution of their duties.

He urged the media to provide fair, accurate and balanced coverage of political parties and candidates during the electoral process.

“The media personnel and non-governmental organisations intending to monitor or observe the elections will be required to obtain accreditation from the Commission,” he said.

The DEO noted that accreditation for stakeholders will commence soon and has encouraged all those wishing to participate in the by-election to follow the laid-down procedures.

The DEO also disclosed that other elections being conducted include the mayoral by-election in Mbala District, Northern Province, the Lumezi parliamentary election in Lumezi Constituency of Lumezi District in Eastern Province, and the Mandevu Parliamentary election in Mandevu Constituency, Lusaka District.

“Elections will also be conducted in 11 wards, namely Lungwishi Ward in Mansa District, Maako and Nkonge Wards in Chipili District, Natchikufu Ward in mpika District, Lubaleshi Ward in Kanchibiya District in Muchinga province Maako Ward in Kasempa District in Northwestern province, Siluwe and Upangoma Wards in Kalabo District, Mbeta Ward in Sioma District, Mulimambango Ward in Sesheke District, and Simanvwa Ward in Choma District,” he added.

Mr Musenge said that the various by-elections have been necessitated by factors including the deaths of nominated or elected candidates, uncontested elections during the recently concluded general election.

He has further called on candidates, political parties and their supporters to maintain peace and conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after nomination day.

And Mpika South Returning Officer, Nathan Kapeshi has called on political parties to help remove campaign materials such as postage stamps, chitenge materials and others across the district.

Mr Kapeshi also urged the media not to give their own opinions, adding that they must follow their ethics and give every political party a platform to be interviewed.

“The media must not choose which political party to be covered but must cover all political parties as a way to balance their stories and give a platform to other individuals,” he said.

He further said that uniformed staff must provide security and also law and order to voters, political parties and independent candidates
