Mr Kajoba appealed to Maako residents to remain peaceful during the nominations for the Maako Ward by-election which are scheduled for Thursday, 8 October 2026.
He said this during a briefing for aspiring candidates, election agents, the media, monitors and observers in Kasempa today.
“Our appeal this time around is to the people of Maako let us not experience what we experienced last time. So our appeal is, please, let us not go through that,” He added.
Mr Kajoba said Maako Ward by-election is among several that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) will conduct on the same date nationwide, including in Mbala and Lumezi.
He said the by-elections had been caused by candidate deaths, uncontested seats in the recent general election, and nullified results by the Local Government Elections Tribunal.
Mr Kajoba said the ECZ expects candidates, political parties, supporters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the nominations, given what happened previously.
He urged political parties and candidates to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct, and election agents, monitors and observers to exercise professionalism and integrity.
Mr Kajoba said the Commission had lined up voter education, conflict management and staff training ahead of the by-election, and would also engage youths and women in preparation.
Mr Kajoba commended ECZ staff for passing on training from the general election, saying this ensured no candidate was turned away for failing to meet requirements.
“We never experienced a situation where a candidate was turned away or disqualified because they were missing this and that,” he said.
