A senior citizen of Zambezi District in North-Western Province has expressed deep disappointment over the failure by local youths to utilise Government initiatives aimed at self-empowerment, particularly the skills development component of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Speaking in an interview , Enock Kanyambi described the general attitude of young people in the district as uncalled for, noting that many choose to loiter in the streets instead of acquiring practical life skills.
Mr Kanyambi observed that while the government has put in place supportive policies to improve the welfare of young people, their widespread apathy contributes nothing to National development.
He particularly criticised the mindset of the current generation, commonly referred to as “Gen Z,” labeling them as ungrateful and uncommitted to the National developmental agenda.
“I question the focus and priorities of today’s young people. During our time, my peers and I chose to support the government by being responsible youths, the current focus on ‘chilling and vibes’ is a sheer waste of time and a distraction from reality, “Mr Kanyambi said.
He appealed to young people to prioritise real issues that will secure their future, consult elders on matters they do not understand and choose beneficial peer groups.
“I am calling on all youths, especially those in Zambezi, to take advantage of the CDF skills development component and empower yourselves. These are survival skills that will help you build a better life, not drinking and partying all the time,” Mr Kanyambi added.
He emphasised that National development requires the active and inclusive participation of responsible youths who are ready to seize available opportunities.
