Nkana coach Elijah Tana has expressed satisfaction with the goalless draw against Power Dynamos in the Kitwe derby played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday.

Near misses were the hallmark of the derby as Nkana keeper William Mtonga denied Power a win with crucial saves in both halves.

It was a match Super League champions Power dominated with Nkana showing flashes of brilliance.

Power striker Andy Boyeli came close to opening the scoring when he missed from inside the box with keeper Mtonga off his line after 14 minutes.

There were also misses from Boyeli’s teammates Joshua Mutale and Ismael Ankobo in the first half before the crossbar denied Power.

Nkana striker Lazarus Kambole will go home kicking himself after misdirecting a shot within the box when set up by winger Charles Zulu.

In a post-match comment, Tana said he was happy with the one point Nkana earned from the derby.

“I’m happy with the clean sheet. Credit to the boys for getting one point from the derby,” Tana said.

“I told my boys at half time to be cautious. This is a new team with energetic boys so I will keep pushing on the boys,” he said.

Tana further saluted the conduct of the usually controversial Nkana supporters.

“Our fans should continue conducting themselves well like they did today. I’m happy with the conduct of our fans and they must continue,” he said.

Meanwhile, Power assistant coach Linos Makwaza lamented the missed opportunities in the derby.

“It was a very tough game. Nkana played with positive energy and as Power Dynamos we created a lot of chances,” Makwaza said.

Nkana are third in Stream A with ten points and Power are placed fifth on the table with seven points after five matches played.

New Minister of Youth and Sport Likando Mufalali was among thousands of spectators who thronged Levy Mwanawasa Stadium for the biggest match on the local football front.
