Defending champions Power Dynamos go head-to-head against sworn rivals Nkana on Saturday in the Kitwe derby set for Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The first leg tie of the 2026 transitional Super League season is a battle for bragging rights in the cosmopolitan city of Kitwe.
Close to forty thousand spectators are expected to throng Levy Mwanawasa Stadium for the mouthwatering encounter.
Ahead of the clash, Nkana are enjoying better form over Power so far in the four-match season.
Kalampa are second in Stream A with nine points after posting three wins and one defeat, while Power are fifth on the table with six points following two wins and two defeats.
Nkana coach Elijah Tana said the derby needs more than just physical readiness but mental preparedness as well.
“Football is all about preparation. The preparation we take is as if it is a plan when you are getting married. When you are getting married, what do you do? You plan,” Tana said in a pre-match comment.
“My players are very young, so they are energetic, but to work on it is mental. You know young players, they have time to collapse, so I talk to them. This is a derby, don’t relax, and don’t take it easy. It will be tough.”
Nkana will play minus injured Captain Harrison Chisala while striker Dave Daka is also unavailable after picking up an injury in last Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Konkola Blades.
Power coach Oswald Mutapa said the game should be approached without emotions.
“It is a game where you don’t need to use emotions. A lot of things come into play, experience comes into play, big stage players come into play and the unknown players come into play,” Mutapa said.
Power come into the derby from a 1-0 loss to FC Muza away in Mazabuka.
“No emotion involved but you have to play basic football. It is a game that we want to win. We have prepared very well and only the 90 minutes will tell. I don’t think we are under pressure, we just have to play our game. Football is always played with pressure but pressure is for coaches, players just go out there, enjoy yourselves and take responsibility,” Mutapa said.
Kickoff is at 15h00.
