Super Division champions Power Dynamos have launched the transitional season campaign with a loss to Konkola Blades away at Konkola Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Konkola stunned Power 2-1 in the Stream A match played in Chililabombwe with goals in either half.

It was an unlikely start for Power, who were confirmed 2025/26 league champions at the same venue when beating Konkola 2-1 last May.

The hosts made their intentions known early when taking the lead through Clive Biyeta inside the first minute.

Konkola took a 1-0 lead into the break before Power replied with forward Amine Hiver stepping up to dispatch a penalty.

Power won a penalty in the 80th minute after Jackson Mulambia was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot without hesitation.

The game was heading for a 1-1 stalemate when second-half substitute Wilson Chisala scored in his own net five minutes away from full time.

Chisala had replaced Salulani Phiri just after the break.

Power coach Oswald Mutapa was left gutted by the loss.

“Losing our first game is painful. I feel we created a lot of chances, we didn’t bury them. It is all about organisation and taking responsibility,” Mutapa said.

Konkola coach Beston Chambeshi said beating champions Power was not an easy task.

“It’s been a tough game, a big game. Playing the champions Power is not easy but I’m happy with the way the team played. We respected Power as champions so we fought hard to win,” Chambeshi said.

In Kalumbila, Nkana edged promoted side Trident 1-0 at Sentinel Grounds to make a bright start to the new season.

Attacker Charles Zulu scored a first-half goal that separated Nkana and Trident.

Zulu’s 19th-minute strike was enough to seal all three points on the road in a hard-fought, sweltering season opener.
