ELISHA MATAMBO SAYS UPND MEMBERS WHO CONTESTED AS INDEPENDENTS IN AUGUST GENERAL ELECTION REMAIN EXPELLED

UPND Copperbelt Provincial Chairperson Elisha Matambo says party members who contested the August 2026 elections as independent candidates after failing to secure adoption remain expelled from the party.

Mr. Matambo has told Phoenix News that the UPND constitution is clear on the position of members who disregard party directives by standing as independent candidates after not being adopted.

He says the affected members are free to reapply for membership, but the final decision on whether they can rejoin the party lies with the UPND National Management Committee.

Mr. Matambo says several UPND members across the country contested the 2026 general elections at parliamentary, mayoral and local government levels after failing to secure party adoption.

He says individuals seeking to rejoin the UPND should seek further guidance from the office of the party Secretary General, which has the mandate to handle such matters.
