Residents of Bweengwa Constituency in Monze District have joined growing calls for constitutional reforms that would scrap presidential term limits, arguing that the current two-term restriction hinders national development, particularly under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.

The appeal was made during a football tournament in Nalutanda area of the constituency.

Speaking on behalf of the community, senior headman Moompo Joseph Moompo said residents had formally requested their Member of Parliament, Micheelo Kasauta, to table the matter in Parliament without delay.

Community members maintained that two terms are insufficient for a president to holistically transform the country. They pointed to the development recorded under President Hichilema and argued that he should be afforded more time to advance the Grow Zambia agenda.

Responding to the call, Bweengwa MP Micheelo Kasauta endorsed the request and pledged to present it before Parliament.

He noted that changes in leadership frequently bring new priorities that replace existing programmes, causing projects to stall and risking the waste of resources already invested.

The law maker  added that a constitution should serve the nation by enabling effective leadership where a leader is performing, and stressed that the Grow Zambia agenda requires stability, consistency and visionary leadership. The proposed reforms, he said, would safeguard the continuity needed to fully realise that vision.
