Mr. Kalaba says the move is necessary to restore cleanliness, order and dignity to the capital city.
He says good leadership should be acknowledged regardless of political differences when decisions are made in the interest of residents.
Mr. Kalaba, however, says the Lusaka City Council must ensure that traders affected by the exercise are provided with safe, accessible and affordable trading spaces.
He says keeping Lusaka clean should not be treated as a political issue, but as a matter of civic pride, public health and responsibility to future generations.
Meanwhile, Kafue West Member of Parliament and UPND Lusaka Provincial Chairperson Obvious Mwaliteta has backed efforts to restore cleanliness and order in Lusaka’s Central Business District.
Mr. Mwaliteta says maintaining cleanliness in the Lusaka CBD is among the core responsibilities of the Mayor’s office and should receive the support of all well-meaning Zambians.
He says the Mayor has the full support of the UPND Lusaka Provincial leadership in restoring cleanliness and order in the city.
Mr. Mwaliteta has called for the approach being implemented in Lusaka to be extended to other towns and cities across the country, including Kafue West.
