Rural News 2 min.Read Chipata Central MP pledges development, job creation By Kevin Kabwe October 7, 2026 FacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsAppChipata Central Member of Parliament, George Mwanza says his focus is to accelerate infrastructure development, job creation and economic empowerment in the constituency through strategic partnerships and Government support.
Mr Mwanza said there is need to prioritise the completion and improvement of market infrastructure, including Saturday Market, Kaumbwe Market, Magazine Market and Chisitu Market.
He said Magazine Market, in particular, requires improved infrastructure and ZESCO electricity connectivity to enhance trading activities.
Mr Mwanza said he will also continue working with President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND Government to secure additional funding for the completion of township roads and the expansion of the road network in the Chipata Central Business District.
The Chipata Central lawmaker said CDF resources should be used to provide durable roads in compounds and urban residential areas instead of relying mainly on dust grading.
“We need to move towards durable and properly paved roads in our residential areas so that our people can have clean, accessible and safer communities,” he said.
Mr Mwanza said the constituency also needs expanded solar street lighting in business and residential areas to improve security and support economic activities after dark.
He said improving infrastructure in schools, health facilities and other public institutions will remain a priority through CDF and other Government programmes.
Mr Mwanza said women, youths and other citizens should be empowered through CDF opportunities, skills development and partnerships with the private sector.
The lawmaker said creating employment opportunities and equipping young people with practical skills will help address unemployment and enable residents to participate meaningfully in the local economy.
He said strategic partnerships with local and international organisations will also be pursued to attract additional resources and expertise for development projects in the constituency.
Mr Mwanza said expanding ZESCO electricity connectivity to key communities will help stimulate local economic activity and improve service delivery.
He further said the constituency will continue to support the installation of mechanised water supply systems to improve access to safe and reliable water.
Mr Mwanza said the Presidential Grow Zambia Agenda should be localised so that communities in Chipata Central can directly benefit from the national development agenda.
He said talent, sport, creativity and culture will also be promoted as platforms for youth empowerment and economic opportunities.
Mr Mwanza said effective representation requires a leader who is present and accessible to constituents while also representing their interests at Parliament, national platforms and internationally.
He said his leadership will be anchored on development, accessibility, accountability, partnerships and creating opportunities for the people of Chipata Central.
