A-94-year-old resident of Chinsali District, Mukuka Chifwamba, has expressed delight with the developmental transformation the district has undergone since the country attained Independence.

Mr Chifwamba says Chinsali has recorded significant infrastructure development over the years through successive Government policies, particularly under recent Administrations.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the media in Chinsali today, Mr Chifwamba noted that the district had lagged behind in development for many years but has witnessed remarkable progress due to efforts by various Governments.

He explained that in the past, the district lacked modern infrastructure, quality healthcare services and a good road network, noting that the situation has improved.

“At 94 years, I am happy to witness this development that had been missing for many years and I wish to commend all the Governments that have played a part in this progress, including President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration, which has improved the education sector, social welfare services and developmental policies among others,” he said.

Mr Chifwamba said Chinsali being the birthplace of Zambia’s First Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda and several prominent freedom fighters, deserves continued development befitting its historical significance of the country’s liberation struggle.

He also appealed to young people in the district to preserve the town’s history by promoting peace, unity and patriotism.

Meanwhile, a Chinsali youth, Innocent Sunkutu, commended the Government for undertaking infrastructure and road development projects that is giving the district a facelift.

Mr Sunkutu said Government has demonstrated its commitment to equitable development and ensuring that no one is left behind.

He stressed that despite Chinsali being predominantly rural, the district continues to benefit from national development programmes that have been enhanced by President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration.

Mr Sunkutu further urged youths to support the progressive development initiatives by contributing positively to the growth of the district.

“Chinsali has really transformed because for a long time, it was referred to as a bush where freedom fighters came from, but today we are proudly witnessing the positive change of our town,” he said.

He further called on youths in the district to embrace and preserve the legacy of Chinsali as the country celebrates its 62nd Independence Anniversary later this month.
