Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife Lucy Muteke were seen raising their hands in an apparent act of surrender as they participated in an altar call at House of Treasures Ministries in South Africa, just four days before their deaths in a helicopter crash.
The couple were among worshippers who had responded to an altar call led by Koinonia Global Ministries founder Apostle Joshua Selman, who invited those willing to receive Jesus Christ to come forward and join him in a prayer of salvation.
The emotional moment unfolded on Saturday, September 26, 2026, during the Vessels of Honour prayer event, where Selman had been invited to minister on the fifth day of the gathering.
Chivayo and Muteke were captured standing among the worshippers who had come forward as Selman led them through a series of declarations centred on accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
In the footage, the businessman and his wife can be seen lifting their hands as Selman instructed those who had responded to the altar call to repeat after him and publicly declare their faith.
Selman first asked the worshippers to affirm their belief in Jesus Christ, His identity as the Son of God and His resurrection.
“Lift your hand and say, Lord Jesus I have heard your word and I love you with all my heart and I believe that you are the son of God and I believe that you rose again for my justification,” Selman prayed.
The preacher then led them into the central declaration of the prayer, asking the worshippers to receive Jesus Christ into their hearts and acknowledge Him as their Saviour, Lord and King.
“Right now I receive Jesus into my heart as my saviour, my Lord and my King. I declare that the power of sin, Satan and hell and grave is broken over my life. From today I am a child of God. I go forward,” Selman prayed.
As Selman delivered the prayer, several worshippers raised their hands, with Chivayo and Muteke visibly participating in the moment.
The prayer was centred on the Christian message of salvation and the belief that accepting Christ marks a break from the power of sin and the beginning of a new life in faith.
Selman’s words also called on those responding to the altar call to make the decision personally, rather than merely observe others making the declaration.
The footage has since attracted renewed attention because the altar call took place only four days before Chivayo and his wife died in the helicopter crash.
The timing has given the church appearance an added significance, with the prayer now standing among the final documented moments of the couple’s lives.
The service was held at House of Treasures Ministries and formed part of the Vessels of Honour prayer gathering organised and hosted by House of Treasures Ministries founder Apostle Felix Okoh and his wife, Pastor Bulewa Okoh.
Following the service, Okoh shared photographs of himself with Selman, Chivayo and Muteke, thanking the couple for joining them in worship.
“Great service at House of Treasures Ministries with my dear brother Apostle Joshua Selman and thank you to Wicknell and his dear wife, for fellowshipping with us in service today. The Lord bless you and honour you,” Okoh wrote.
The photographs showed Chivayo and Muteke alongside the two religious leaders, providing a glimpse of the couple during their visit to the church just days before their deaths.-K24
