UPND KATONDO STREET COMMANDER COMPLIES WITH MAYOR’S CLEAN CITY MOVE.
United Party for National Development (UPND) Youth Chairman for Katondo Street says he will not object to the removal of his structure as part of efforts to make Lusaka cleaner and more orderly.
The youth leader says he supports the clean-city agenda and that other youths operating from undesignated areas will cooperate with the Lusaka City Council to help achieve the objective.
This follows an engagement between Lusaka Mayor-Elect Chitambala Mwewa and the UPND youth leader over the structure, which the Mayor said was located in an ungazetted area.
Mr. Mwewa told the youth leader that political affiliation should not be used as a basis for breaking the law.
“You can’t have this arrangement here just because you belong to us, UPND. We can’t break the law. You have to move from here. This is ungazetted,” the Mayor said.
In response, the UPND youth leader pledged to comply with the directive and vacate the area.
“We support you, Mayor, and we will move out of this today. In fact, we are also yearning for a clean city. We will support you to achieve this goal,” the youth leader said.
The development comes as the Lusaka City Council intensifies efforts to restore order and improve cleanliness in the city.
