LUSAKA MAYOR ORDERS CAR DEALERS TO VACATE KATONDO STREET
Lusaka Mayor-Elect, Simon Mwewa, says Katondo Street is not a designated area for car trading and has directed people selling vehicles from the area to vacate.
Mr. Mwewa says Katondo Street houses a public library established for the benefit of residents and should not be turned into a car trading area.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Mwewa said that the continued sale of vehicles in the area could contribute to criminality and insecurity in the Central Business District (CBD).
He has since urged car dealers operating from Katondo Street to find alternative designated areas for their businesses.
And Mr. Mwewa said that the Lusaka City Council is not responsible for identifying alternative trading places for individuals who have chosen to operate in undesignated areas
He has stressed the need to preserve public facilities and ensure that the CBD remains accessible to all residents and legitimate businesses.
Mr. Mwewa has further warned against allowing Katondo Street to degenerate into an area associated with criminality and insecurity
