BREAKING: Trump begged voters to act like he was on the ballot, and they did, delivering a blue tsunami across the entire map

Donald Trump told America to pretend he was on the ballot. On Election Night, America took him at his word.

According to The New York Times, Democrats captured critical Senate seats and made strong showings in areas Republicans have long won by wide margins, in what the paper called voters’ first national mandate on Trump’s second term. The Times forecast gives Democrats a greater than 95 percent chance to win both the House and the Senate.

The night started in deep red South Carolina. Democrat Annie Andrews, a pediatrician, is projected to defeat Sen. Darline Graham, Lindsey Graham’s sister, a state Trump carried by nearly 18 points in 2024. Trump held three rallies there for her. Democrats also flipped North Carolina and held Georgia and New Hampshire, putting them two seats away from the four they need for the Senate.

In Texas, James Talarico leads Ken Paxton 58 to 40 with 58 percent counted, and the Times gives him a greater than 95 percent chance to win. In Ohio, Sherrod Brown is ahead of Sen. Jon Husted. In Nebraska, independent Dan Osborn is outrunning his 2024 pace. Mississippi’s Senate race has become a tossup.

Down the ballot it’s the same story. Rebecca Bennett, a Navy helicopter pilot, ousted Rep. Tom Kean Jr. in New Jersey. Stefany Shaheen won in New Hampshire. Democrats won three Florida districts Republicans had redrawn for themselves, and the Times reports the GOP redistricting push appears to have failed. In Georgia, Keisha Lance Bottoms became the first Black woman elected governor in the country.

The Times’ Nate Cohn says Democrats are on track to win the national House popular vote by 12 points, the largest margin for either party since 1982.

And Trump? The Times reports he’s watching from the White House, posting complaints about Fox News, and has celebrated a win in Guam, but hasn’t said much about results in the 50 states.

He asked for a referendum on himself. He got one.
