RIOT REPORTED IN CHAVUMA FOLLOWING DEATH OF INDEPENDENT COUNCILLOR
Tensions have reportedly erupted in Chavuma District following the death of newly elected independent councillor for Chambi-Mandalo Ward, Solochi Charles, who died under unclear circumstances after successfully defending his election victory in court.
Reports indicate that the body of Mr Solochi was taken to the residence of Michael Kalulu, a United Party for National Development (UPND) member who had petitioned his election.
According to reports, the deceased’s family demanded that Mr Kalulu bring Solochi back to life, alleging that his death was not natural.
Last week, the Zambezi Magistrate’s Court dismissed Mr Kalulu’s election petition, allowing Mr Solochi to retain his seat as councillor.
His death today has reportedly sparked anger among residents, with tensions rising in Chavuma.
The circumstances surrounding his death and the reported unrest have yet to be independently established.
