NRPUP WON’T TAKE PART IN BY-ELECTIONS

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has directed returning officers in 12 districts not to accept or validate nomination papers and adoption certificates presented under the banner of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) ahead of the November 5, 2026 by-elections.

In a letter dated October 7, 2026, addressed to town clerks and council secretaries, the Commission said NRPUP had officially informed it that the party would not participate in the forthcoming by-elections.

The decision was communicated to the ECZ through a letter dated October 7, 2026, signed by the party’s Secretary General.

Consequently, the Commission stated that all adoption certificates previously or currently issued to candidates seeking to contest parliamentary, mayoral and ward elections under the party’s banner in the affected areas were invalid.

The ECZ therefore instructed returning officers not to accept, process or validate any nomination papers or adoption certificates presented in the name of NRPUP.

The directive affects the districts of Chipili, Choma, Kalabo, Kanchibiya, Kasempa, Lumezi, Lusaka, Mansa, Mpika, Mbala, Sesheke and Sioma.
