KASENENGWA RECOUNT SHOWS LEVISON ZIWA AHEAD OF PHILIMON TWASA

The Chipata High Court has heard that the recount of votes in the Kasenengwa Constituency parliamentary election has shown UPND candidate Levison Ziwa with more votes than NRPUP candidate Philimon Twasa.

The recount was ordered by the Chipata High Court following an election petition filed by Mr Ziwa, who is challenging the election of Mr Twasa as Member of Parliament for Kasenengwa Constituency.

According to the recount report presented before the Chipata High Court by the Registrar of the High Court, the recount showed that Levison Ziwa of the UPND obtained 14,693 votes, while Philimon Twasa of the NRPUP obtained 12,907 votes.

This represents a difference of 1,786 votes in favour of Mr Ziwa based on the figures contained in the recount report presented to court.

Mr Ziwa is being represented by Obadiah Musanje of Kamwi and Andeleki Legal Practitioners.

The petition was filed after the Electoral Commission of Zambia declared Mr Philimon Twasa the winner of the Kasenengwa parliamentary election, with the original declared results putting Mr Twasa ahead of Mr Ziwa.

The recount was subsequently ordered by the High Court after Mr Ziwa challenged the results and raised concerns over discrepancies in the counting and totaling of votes.

The matter is being heard before High Court Judge Elita Phiri Mwikisa.

The recount report is now before the court as part of the proceedings, and the parties are expected to make their respective submissions before the court determines the petition.

The matter has been adjourned to 25th November 2026 for Judgement
