Newly elected Solwezi Mayor, Evans Lubelenga, has encouraged the people of Kivuku Ward in Solwezi District to actively participate in programmes the government is implementing.

Speaking during an engagement meeting held to encourage community members to make submissions for the 2027 Council Budget, Mr Lubelenga explained that community members play an important role in identifying projects they would like the local authority to embark on in their communities.

“As leaders, we are to ensure that we hear what you want so that we work towards delivering the projects to you,” Mr Lubelenga said.

Mr Lubelenga expressed concern that people are not taking advantage of empowerment programmes such as skills bursaries under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to improve their livelihoods.

He stated that it is sad that despite efforts by the councilor to sensitise people and offer guidelines on how to apply for different components of CDF empowerment, people are still complaining of being left out.

Mr Lubelenga has thanked the people for voting for the leaders in the district to represent them.

“On behalf of Mr Hakainde Hichilema, the Member of Parliament and the Councilor, Aphet Mundambo, we are saying thank you for voting for us and we will work together to foster development,” he stated.

Speaking on behalf of the Kaweya Community, Kafumu Kachemuzhinga, has expressed concern over the poor state of the road, adding that it makes it difficult for people in the area to conduct business.

He has also appealed for a maternity annex in the area to make it easy for expectant mothers to deliver in a decent place and reduce referrals to the general hospital especially with the poor state of the road.

Meanwhile, Kambowo Group Leader, Mary Mumba, has appealed to the government to construct a school in the area that will enable pupils to learn in a decent and safe environment.
