Kawambwa Town Council Secretary, George Biemba has urged residents to improve waste management practices ahead of the rainy season to prevent environmental pollution and the spread of waterborne diseases.
Mr Biemba noted that proper waste disposal is important in maintaining a clean and healthy environment, especially during the rainy season when poor sanitation could increase the risk of disease outbreaks.
He said this in a press release issued to the media by Kawambwa Town Council Public Relations Officer, Mwango Kapalaula,
Mr Biemba said poorly managed waste could block drainage systems and contaminate water sources, increasing the risk of diseases such as Cholera and Diarrhea.
He has since urged residents to avoid dumping garbage on roadsides, in drainage channels and in open spaces.
And Ms Kapalaula has also encouraged households to ensure that waste is properly collected, stored and disposed of at selected disposal points.
She said poor waste management could create breeding grounds for disease causing organisms and pests, posing a public health risk to communities.
She said keeping Kawambwa clean is a shared responsibility that requires the active participation of every resident.
