A concerned resident of Maule Village, Perthias Sichula, has bemoaned the lack of a dependable water source at the health facility, saying the situation is putting patients and health workers at risk.
Mr Sichula told the media in an interview that the facility does not have reliable running water, forcing patients and health workers to fetch water from various unprotected sources in the surrounding area.
Mr Sichula has since appealed to government and other relevant authorities to urgently drill a borehole or connect the facility to a safe and reliable water supply.
He also expressed concern over the deplorable state of the road connecting Maule Village to Senga Market through Kalukanya, Moses and Nkatya villages.
Mr Sichula has called on the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, through the Senga Hill Town Council and the Road Development Agency (RDA), to work on the road to ease the movement of people, goods and services.
Meanwhile, Senga Hill District United Party for National Development (UPND) Chairperson Lewis Muchindo has acknowledged the water challenge at Maule Rural Health Facility, saying the matter is known and that government officials are doing everything possible to address the matter.
Mr Muchindo said government is expected to address the water challenge through the 2027 Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
He said it is important for every health facility to have access to a reliable water supply, given the critical role water plays in the provision of quality healthcare services.
Mr Muchindo has since appealed to residents to remain patient, assuring them that a borehole will be installed at the facility.
He said the Government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, has heard the concerns raised by the community and is doing everything possible to address the challenge, particularly for the benefit of patients and expectant mothers who require adequate water during childbirth.
Mr Muchindo further said the planned borehole project should include a water storage tank and taps to ensure that the health facility has a sustainable and accessible water supply.
