Village Headmen in Maround and Overspill townships in Mbala District have called on Mbala Central Member of Parliament, Raphael Chilufya to help address the persistent water challenges affecting residents in the two areas.
One of the Village Headmen in Maround, Penza Siame says residents have been facing challenges to access clean and safe drinking water for a long time, forcing them to walk long distances to fetch the commodity from the Lucheche stream.
Mr Siame told ZANIS in Mbala that there is an urgent need for a lasting solution to the water challenges facing the two communities.
And Mbala Central Member of Parliament, Raphael Chilufya, said he had taken note of the concerns raised by residents from the respective townships.
Mr Chilufya said he will engage the council and other departments to explore ways of addressing the problem.
He urged the Village Headmen to remain united, regardless of their political affiliations, in order to contribute to the development of the constituency.
“Water is a basic need, and I have taken note of the challenges raised by the residents. I will engage the relevant authorities to see how best this problem can be addressed. I also encourage Village Headmen to remain united, regardless of their political affiliations, because unity is important for the development of Mbala Central Constituency,” he advised.
