Gary Lineker reveals his sadness at Cristiano Ronaldo’s public Portugal row and walk-out:

“It’s a little bit sad. He’s been such a great, great player and he’s coming to the end of the career. It’s hard to let go of football, it’s difficult.

“Look at Messi’s finale, that was incredible, so beautiful. He played in Buenos Aires, he got a penalty, two assists. But it was his final and the streets were packed. That’s the sort of farewell that Cristiano should have. It looks like he wanted to do that. and then he’s fallen out with the coach.

“But the last two or three tournaments have been very similar, which is a shame because Cristiano has been one of the greatest players we’ve ever seen. His career is amazing. Yes, he’s probably uber-confident. But it would be sad if it doesn’t end harmoniously.

Hopefully they can get their heads together and work something out and give it a fitting send off. It would be sad if it ends in this way.”
