Dangote Cement Zambia has reaffirmed its confidence in the country’s future, committing to support national development through local manufacturing, regional exports and community investment, in line with the Grow Zambia Agenda.

Dangote Cement Zambia Chief Executive Officer, Vipul Agrawal, said Zambia’s attractiveness as an investment destination was one reason for the company’s confidence.

He added that the Grow Zambia Agenda had come at an important time in the country’s development.

Mr Agrawal said the company fully aligned with President Hakainde Hichilema’s view, expressed recently at the opening of the first session of the 14th National Assembly, that the private sector should drive economic growth while the Government creates an enabling environment.

“Strong economies are built when the Government and business work together towards shared development objectives,” he said.

He notes that the country’s progress in economic reforms, fiscal discipline as well as improvement of the business environment is encouraging for investment.

Mr Agrawal stated that Dangote Cement Zambia continues to invest in upgrades that reduce carbon footprint, saying further investments of over US$30 million in green energy are currently underway.

He said economic growth, industrialisation, private-sector participation and job creation were essential to Zambia’s sustainable development.

Mr Agrawal added that Dangote Cement’s vision aligned closely with the Grow Zambia Agenda, citing Dangote Group Chairman Aliko Dangote’s visit to State House last year, where he held discussions with President Hichilema on value added industries, as reflecting a shared vision of creating opportunities for Zambians.

Mr Agrawal said Dangote Cement Zambia demonstrated how private investment could contribute to national development by creating jobs, supporting local businesses, generating tax revenue and contributing to infrastructure development.

He also called for the acceleration of reforms to improve industrial efficiency and reduce operating costs, which include continued investment in transport infrastructure, rail networks and trade facilitation.

Following President Hichilema’s unveiling of the Grow Zambia Agenda, Dangote Cement Zambia continues to invest in skills development. More than 520 young people have received technical training at partner vocational centres to help create opportunities for Zambians.
