Chisamba Member of Parliament (MP) Martin Chowa has called for increased investment in irrigation and water infrastructure, feeder roads, electricity and digital connectivity to enhance agricultural production and economic growth in his area.

Mr Chowa says economic growth is a catalyst to achieve the Grow Zambia Agenda.

He notes that improved infrastructure will connect farming communities to markets, reduce the cost of agricultural inputs and create more opportunities for young people and women.

Mr Chowa said this in Parliament today during his maiden speech, where he expressed support for the Grow Zambia Agenda, which he said provides an opportunity for the country to harness its agricultural potential, increase production and promote wealth creation.

He cited Chisamba as being an agricultural constituency, requires improved road infrastructure to facilitate the transportation of farm produce to markets and ensure communities have access to essential services.

Mr Chowa further called for increased investment in water infrastructure, including the development and rehabilitation of water schemes and other sustainable water sources, to ensure households have access to clean and reliable drinking water.

He has since appealed to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Urban Development to prioritise the construction and rehabilitation of the Kasabasa road and the Chaminuka-Chimunuka-Mununga roads.

He said developing the roads would improve connectivity and support economic activities in the constituency.

The MP reaffirmed his commitment to working with government and other stakeholders to ensure that the benefits of the Grow Zambia Agenda reach the people, particularly through inclusive development, improved livelihoods and enhanced economic opportunities.

And speaking in Parliament today when he delivered his maiden speech, Mkushi South Lawmaker, Sydney Chisanga, stressed the need to promote women’s participation in the economic growth and development of Mkushi South.

Mr Chisanga said women play a critical role in agriculture, trading, professional services, caregiving and entrepreneurship, adding that no woman should be left behind in the development process.
