The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has declared United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Anderson Banda duly elected Member of Parliament for Lumezi North Constituency after he went unopposed.

The ECZ Returning Officer for Lumezi North Constituency declared Mr Banda duly elected following the close of the nomination process.

The National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) failed to file its nomination on account that its party Leadership opted to not participate, while Leadership Movement candidate Nebby Manda withdrew from the race.

Speaking shortly after his declaration, Mr Banda said his victory was a responsibility to serve all the people of Lumezi, regardless of their political affiliation.

“This victory belongs to the people of Lumezi. I am committed to serving them diligently and championing their welfare through development initiatives that respond to their needs,” Mr Banda said.

He thanked Mr Manda for withdrawing from the race, attributing the development to President Hakainde Hichilema’s development agenda.

Meanwhile, UPND Eastern Province Chairperson Peter Phiri said Mr Banda’s unopposed election reflected what he described as the people’s acceptance of President Hichilema’s leadership and development approach.

“Anderson Banda’s election is a sign of confidence in the UPND’s leadership and development agenda under President Hakainde Hichilema. We remain committed to working with the people of Lumezi to advance development,” Mr Phiri said.

He said that with the expanded Constituency Development Fund (CDF) that stands at 40 Million per Constituency, there will be massive Development.
