Police in Luanshya have launched a manhunt for a 20-year-old man suspected of sexually abusing his 15-year-old younger sister in Mpatamatu Township.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Rae Hamoonga says the incident allegedly occurred on October 7, 2026, around 02:00 hours when the two siblings were alone at home after their guardian had travelled to attend a funeral.

Mr Hamoonga says preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly entered the victim’s bedroom, threatened her and sexually abused her before fleeing the house.

He says the matter was reported to Mpatamatu Police Station around 04:10 hours on the same day.

Mr Hamoonga says the victim sustained physical injuries and complained of pain following the alleged incident.

He says police have opened a docket and issued the victim with a medical report form to facilitate medical examination and treatment.

The Police Commissioner says the suspect is still at large, adding that police have intensified efforts to locate and apprehend him.

Mr Hamoonga says investigations into the matter are continuing.
