Alef Flying Car Soars Over Tesla Roadster in Playful Challenge to Elon Musk

California-based Alef Aeronautics has released footage of its electric flying car soaring over a Tesla Roadster, taking a playful swipe at Elon Musk’s company as competition in the flying-car industry intensifies.

Alef CEO Jim Dukhovny welcomed Tesla to the “flying car race,” saying his company had been competing in the field alone for 11 years.

The demonstration also marked Alef’s 1,000th recorded flight, according to the company. Its vehicle is designed to drive on roads and take off vertically using distributed electric propulsion

Tesla recently unveiled its next-generation Roadster with rocket-style thrusters, including a demonstration showing the vehicle briefly lifting into the air. Production is currently planned for 2028.

While both companies are promoting different approaches to personal flight, the technology, regulatory approval and practical availability of these vehicles remain major challenges
