ZIMBABWE VICE-PRESIDENT GENERAL CHIWENGA ISSUES STRONG WARNING TO MNANGAGWA: “WE MUST NOT REPEAT WHAT HAPPENED TO MUGABE IN 2017!” — ZANU PF’S INTERNAL TENSIONS TAKE CENTRE STAGE!

Zimbabwean Vice-President General Constantino Chiwenga has raised questions about the direction of ZANU PF, warning against the concentration of power in the hands of a select few and insisting that the ruling party belongs to its members and the people.

Speaking at ZANU PF’s 23rd Annual National People’s Conference in Chinhoyi, Chiwenga reportedly questioned whether the party was returning to the conditions that existed before the dramatic events of November 2017, when Robert Mugabe was removed from power.

His remarks focused on internal democracy, the role of ordinary party members and whether party decisions genuinely reflect the wishes of the people.

🔥 WHY THE 2017 COMPARISON MATTERS

In November 2017, Zimbabwe’s military intervened during a political crisis, Mugabe resigned, and Emmerson Mnangagwa subsequently became president. Chiwenga, then a senior military commander, played a prominent role in those events.

His latest comments have therefore attracted attention, particularly because Mnangagwa is now president and Chiwenga serves as his deputy.

However, the remarks should not automatically be interpreted as a direct threat to remove Mnangagwa. The key issue is Chiwenga’s reported warning about party control, internal democracy and the lessons of 2017.

🇿🇼 Could these remarks signal deeper disagreements within ZANU PF, or is Chiwenga simply calling for the party to listen more closely to its members?
