The Zambia Cyber Security Agency (ZCSA) has intensified public awareness efforts to keep up with the evolving difficulty of mobile money scams and account hacking.
ZCSA Director of Research, Education and Awareness, Edgar Mlauzi, said scammers have developed advanced social engineering tactics that go around safety measures put in place and breach security to trap victims.
Mr Mlauzi said the agency is targeting behavioral change among end-users as a key strategy to curb scams and hacking.
“We continuously educate end users, so that whatever prompt you receive, you should stop, think, verify, then act,” he said.
Mr Mlauzi said the agency is committed to strengthening the country’s digital security through stricter requirements for institutions designated as Critical Information Infrastructure.
He noted that these institutions will be required to conduct vulnerability assessments, undergo annual cybersecurity audits and implement security measures to protect their systems against cyberattacks, fraud and data theft.
“Mobile money providers will also be required to have stringent policies and controls in place,” he said.
He further called upon members of the community and the media, stating they play a vital role in cyber conduct while emphasizing that cyber security is everyone’s responsibility.
