Police in Isoka District have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the suspected murder of his 85-year-old father at Senye Village in Chief Katyetye’s Chiefdom.

‎Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer, Lubinda Mayamba, revealed in a statement that the incident occurred between 18:00 hours on October 4th, and 07:00 hours on October 5, 2026.

‎Mr Mayamba said the deceased, Eliot Mutambo, was found dead inside a grass-thatched house after sustaining a suspected fractured skull.

‎He said police visited the scene following a report made at Isoka Police Station on October 5, 2026, and recovered a stone suspected to have been used in the commission of the offence.

‎Mr Mayamba said the body was later taken to Isoka District Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

‎He said the deceased had travelled to Senye Village on October 2, 2026, to visit his son, Lucky Mutambo.

‎The Police Commanding Officer said preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased and his son were drinking traditional beer known as involo on October 4 before the deceased retired to bed.

‎Mr Mayamba said Lucky Mutambo was later detained in police custody to assist with investigations, while the motive is suspected to be linked to allegations of witchcraft.

‎He said a docket of the case has been opened and the suspect will appear in court soon.
