Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, will tomorrow grace the world’s leading Global Child Nutrition Forum on behalf of President Hakainde Hichilema.

The Forum, which will attract over 65 countries worldwide, is being hosted by Zambia in collaboration with the Global Child Nutrition Foundation.

The event aims to foster learning, collaboration, and provide technical support for countries implementing school feeding programmes such as Zambia.

Speaking during a pre-forum briefing meeting, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President Lillian Kapusana, announced that Mrs Nalumango would be representing President Hichilema at the forum.

ZANIS reports that Mrs Kapusana highlighted the importance that President Hakainde Hichilema attaches to this initiative, aimed at supporting countries in their efforts to implement effective school feeding programmes.

She underscored President Hichilema’s keen interest and passion in good nutrition in the country, citing that the country’s nutrition coordinating office was placed under the Vice President’s office to ensure the establishment of good policies as well as governance in the matter.

Mrs Kapusana, who is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Committee of Permanent Secretaries on National Food and Nutrition Security, highlighted that over eight thousand schools are benefiting from the school feeding programme in all the 116 districts in the country.

And the Global Child Nutrition Foundation Executive Director, Arlene Mitchell praised Zambia for being a good model for countries to learn from, citing the progress in school meals programme.

Ms Mitchell expressed that where other countries struggle to fund school meals programmes, Zambia is implementing the programme with impressive action.

“I am impressed with Zambia and I can not wait to share this with the rest of the visiting countries during the forum,” she said.

The Global Child Nutrition Forum unites representatives from governments, businesses, international organisations, NGOs, and academic institutions to share knowledge as well as strategies for improving school feeding and child nutrition worldwide.+
