RTSA Approves Bus Fare Hike Effective Today

The approval follows a request by the Bus and Taxi Owners Association of Zambia (BOTAZ) pursuant to Section 107 (11) of the Road Traffic Act Chapter 464 of the Laws of Zambia as amended by Act No. 8 of 2022.
According to a statement issued by RTSA, the approved increments are as follows:
– Intercity Routes- 7.0% Average Increase
– Inter Mine Routes- K3.50 Increase
– Local Routes – Lusaka – K2.00 Increase
– Peri Urban Routes – Lusaka and other Towns – K3.00 Increase
-Local Routes – Copperbelt and Other Towns – K2.00 Increase
The Agency has directed all bus operators to revise fares accordingly and to display the fare charts in all buses and bus stations. All passenger transport operators have been advised to adhere to the approved fares.
The fare adjustment comes in the wake of the increase in fuel pump prices announced by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) of K6.17 per litre for petrol and K6.41 per litre for diesel on 30th September, 2026.
