Rev. Dr. Given Katuta Mwelwa has condemned the omission of late Sixth Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu from the Zambia Daily Mail’s Independence Anniversary supplement marking Zambia’s 62nd Independence Anniversary.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Dr. Mwelwa said the omission raised concerns about fairness and the recognition of former national leaders, noting that Mr. Lungu served as President from 2015 to 2021
He has called on the newspaper’s management to explain the omission and take corrective action, stressing that Zambia’s history should be preserved without political bias.
“We cannot build a united Zambia by selectively remembering our history,” he said.
