Defending champions Power Dynamos recorded their first win of the transitional Super Division season after edging Nchanga Rangers 1-0 in a Stream A match at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
Attacker Joshua Mutale scored the only goal after 14 minutes as Power held on to win the Week 2 encounter.
Power were smarting from a 2-1 loss to Konkola Blades in their opening fixture.
Mutale, who was named man-of-the-match, expressed happiness after propelling Power to victory in front of their home supporters.
“I’m happy to have scored my first goal of the season. I’m happy we have recorded that first win of the season and for winning the player of the match award,” Mutale said.
“Thank you to all the Yellow faithful who came in numbers to support us.”
The win relieved Power coach Oswald Mutapa, who was left frustrated after the defeat at Konkola.
Meanwhile, it was Nchanga’s second consecutive defeat in the new campaign.
Nchanga deputy coach Israel Mwanza said Brave Rangers will put the loss behind them and focus on their next match.
“Pressure is always there in football. This game against Power Dynamos is gone so we have to focus on the next match against Trident on Wednesday,” Mwanza said.
“Against Trident we have to pick up maximum points and start moving up the ladder.”
Elsewhere, Nkana and Konkola Blades are now joint leaders of Stream A with six points from two opening matches.
Konkola on Sunday afternoon maintained their perfect start after beating Zanaco 3-2 at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.
Konkola coach Beston Chambeshi admitted it was tough.
“It was not an easy game playing against Zanaco. I’m happy with the way the boys played and showed unity. I’m happy about the result,” Chambeshi said.
Zanaco have three points from two matches.
