Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said Matero Police Station received a report around 7:30 a.m. that a large crowd had gathered at Gate 1 of the stadium.
Officers responded and detained 11 people in connection with the incident, Chilabi said in a statement.
Preliminary investigations indicate the gathering followed a misleading social media post by an online commentator that claimed cash would be distributed at the stadium.
Officers told the crowd to disperse peacefully and cleared the area when they did not comply in order to maintain public order, Chilabi said.
Investigations are ongoing.
Police urged the public to be cautious about disinformation on social media, especially posts promising money, and to verify information with authorities.
The situation at the stadium is now calm and officers are monitoring the area, Chilabi said.
