The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced that the consignment of ballot papers for the November 5th, 2026 by-elections have not arrived in the country, as scheduled.
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer, Brown Kasaro says the ballot papers were expected to arrive at 14:30 hours on Friday, October 30, 2026, aboard an Emirates flight.
Mr Kasaro explained that ECZ was, however, informed that the consignment was not aboard the expected flight, contrary to the information contained in the Air Waybill earlier shared.
In a statement Issued to ZANIS in Lusaka, Mr Kasaro assured that the Commission is currently engaging the printer, Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing, and Emirates Airline to establish what transpired and ascertain the status and expected arrival of the consignment.
Mr Kasaro also stressed that the Commission is treating the matter with urgency and will provide further updates as soon as verified information becomes available.
He further announced that the verification exercise which was earlier scheduled for today, Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 09:00 hours at ECZ Head Office will be subject to confirmation following clarification of the consignment’s arrival.
“The Commission appreciates the patience and understanding of all stakeholders,’’ Mr Kasaro said.
