The constitutional bail application case involving National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) 2026 Presidential candidate Brian Mundubile, his running mate Makebi Zulu and 16 others has been adjourned to tomorrow, October 29, 2026.
Chief State Advocate, Chali Hambayi, explained that the matter could not take off this morning to afford time to the lawyers for the petitioners to respond to the affidavit in opposition that was filed by the state.
Ms Hambayi indicated to journalists at the High Court in Lusaka, that the court granted the adjournment based on the request.
“The matter of Brian Mundubile and 17 others was scheduled to come up for the hearing of the application for constitutional bail. However, the matter could not take off this morning due to the fact that the lawyers for the petitioners asked for an adjournment to afford them time to respond to the affidavit in opposition, that was filed by the state,” Ms Hambayi stated.
Meanwhile, the petitioners Lawyer Milner Katolo said the defence team was working to ensure that the affidavit is signed by the clients, so that it is filed and the matter proceeds.
The matter came up before a panel of three judges, chaired by Judge Derek Mulenga.
Mr Mundubile, Mr Zulu and 16 other accused are facing various charges, including treason, sedition and offences relating to the prohibition of terrorism, following the August 13, 2026 general election.
