The Maternity Annex at Nsefu Clinic in Mambwe District in Eastern Province that was recently renovated by Painted Dogs Lagoons, at a cost of about K350, 000
has officially been handed over to the community.

The maternity annex, which was in a deplorable state, has now been given a new face-lift to provide a safe and dignified environment for mothers in the chiefdom to access maternal health services.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Director of Health Services, Luwi Kawanda thanked His Royal Highness Senior Chief Nsefu for engaging Painted Dogs Lagoons to undertake the renovations.

Dr Kawanda also expressed gratitude to the Director of Painted Dogs Lagoons for renovating the facility.

“The improvements made to the infrastructure will ensure that mothers in the chiefdom access maternal health services in a safe environment,” she noted.

She revealed that Nsefu Clinic serves a catchment population of more than 10,000 people, hence the need for quality infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Nsefu Ward Councillor, Kalima Chibwana said he was pleased with the works done by cooperating partners and commended the community for participating in ensuring that the works were completed on time.

Mr Chibwana said the facility will serve the people in the ward and urged mothers to preserve the facility so that it continues to benefit them.

Meanwhile, Painted Dogs Lagoons Director, Peter Woeste thanked Senior Chief Nsefu for creating an enabling environment for them to do business in the chiefdom.

Mr Woeste said he was very happy to help in renovating the annex for the benefit of the community where they are doing business.

He revealed that the renovations cost about 350 thousand Kwacha.

“Our Organization also supports schools in the area by providing textbooks and other learning materials,” he said.

And Senior Chief Nsefu who was represented by his Personal Secretary, John Mbewe commended Painted Dogs Lagoons for the intervention, while calling for more support.

He requested that the main clinic building also be worked on and that staff houses are needed to enhance service delivery to the community.

He called on the Clinic Administration to ensure the facility is well taken care of so that community members receive the intended services in a timely manner.

Senior Chief Nsefu also urged people in his chiefdom to normalise taking expectant mothers to the clinic for safe deliveries.

“For the Community Resource Board (CRB), I urge you to identify areas that need support so that in future, cooperating partners doing business in the Chiefdom can help,” he said.
