Zambia Sports Fans Association (ZASPOFA) Chief Pastor Peter Makembo has welcomed the appointment of Senanga South Member of Parliament Likando Mufalali as Minister of Sports.

Mufalali was among several Ministers appointed and sworn in by President Hakainde Hichilema on Wednesday as a new Cabinet took shape after the 2026 General Elections.

He has succeeded Elvis Nkandu, who has been appointed Minister of Information and Media.

Speaking to the newsroom Sports, Makembo said he expects Mufalali to support all sports disciplines equally and fairly.

Makembo said Mufalali has the potential to excel as Minister of Youth and Sports.

“At last, we have been given the Minister of Sports. We say welcome to our newly appointed Minister of Sports Honourable Mufalali. We know the sports ground is fertile for success, and we need to maintain that” Makembo said.

“All sports disciplines need his guidance and support. Let’s move in a positive way as a sports fraternity in Zambia,” he said.

He called for support for Mufalali.

“I am confident our new Minister of Sports won’t find it difficult to operate and excel. As stakeholders in the sports fraternity, we need to give him the necessary support. Let’s give him the support we have been giving the previous Sports Ministers like Honourable Elvis Nkandu,” Makembo said.

Meanwhile, Mufalali officially reported for duty at the Ministry of Youth and Sports and was warmly welcomed by the management team, Heads of Departments and Units.

“I am grateful for the warm welcome and the thoughtful gesture from the staff, who marked the occasion with a cake-sharing ceremony,” Mufalali said.

“I look forward to working with the entire team to advance youth empowerment and sports development across the country,” he said after reporting for duty.

Mufalali is a business executive and computer technician by profession.
